Before planning to visit Indonesia, we would like to encourage all of you to get to know the understanding of visa classifications. We found many foreigners are getting the wrong visa and makes them waste their money.
From January 9, 2024, Indonesian Immigration introduced new types of visas and new index. Indonesia offers several types of visas for travelers depending on their purpose of visit and duration of stay.
To summarize, here are the classifications:
- Index A : Visa Exemption
- This visa is eligible only for ASEAN countries
- Stay up to 30 days
- Non-extendable
- Non-convertible to any other visa or stay permit
- Index B : Visa on Arrival
- This visa is eligible only for 97 countries
- Stay up to 30 days
- Extendable for one time
- Non-convertible to any other visa or stay permit
- Index C : Single Entry Visitor Visa
- This visa is eligible for all countries
- Stay up to 60 days
- Extendable for two times
- Convertible to Temporary Stay Visa or ITAS
- Index D : Multiple Entry Visitor Visa
- This visa is eligible for all countries
- Stay up to 60 days per entry
- Extendable for two times
- Convertible to Temporary Stay Visa
- Index E : Temporary Stay Visa or ITAS
- This visa is eligible for all countries
- Stay up to 1 or 2 or 5 or 10 years
- Extendable
- Convertible to Permanent Stay Visa or ITAP
- Permanent Stay Visa or ITAP
- Being Temporary Stay Visa / ITAS holder for 5 years in a row.
- Permanent Stay Permit (ITAP) can be granted to Foreign Nationals holding ITAS engaged in activities with Change of Status process:
- as a worker;
- as a clergyman/clergywoman;
- foreign investment;
- family reunification;
- repatriation;
- the second home consists of: second home, special expertise, personage, individuals aged 60 years or older.
- Permanent Stay Permit (ITAP) can be granted to Foreign Nationals holding ITAS engaged in activities without Change of Status process:

- Ex-double citizenship children of the Republic of Indonesia who choose foreign citizenship or do not make a choice until the age of 21 in the territory of Indonesia;
- Children born in the territory of Indonesia with parents who are holders of Permanent Stay Permits at the time of birth; and
- Indonesian citizens who lose Indonesian citizenship in the territory of Indonesia.
